Description
  • Ensure the safety of students
  • Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g. custody papers, medical records, communication with parents and other teachers
  • Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
  • Assist students in the cafeteria, playground/recess, hall and/or classroom
  • Direct and discipline children according to the directions of the Building Principal and/or refer disciplinary cases to the Building Principal
  • Keep student focused and on-task, every period, as much as possible
  • Ability to carry out policies and procedures of the Board of Education and the Principal
  • Carry out other normal routine and extra activities necessary for the educational development of students with disabilities
  • Supervise and assist students at various school activities and functions
  • Monitor and manage student behavior as directed by the teacher
  • Assist students in the development of life skills and appropriate social behaviors
  • Conduct individual or small groups reinforcing exercises as directed by the teacher
  • Supervise students as directed by the teacher
  • Work with students with disabilities under the supervision of teachers
  • Record keeping as necessary
  • Attend meetings and in-services as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal/Director of Special Programs
  • Keep student current on homework assignments
  • Ability to manage student behavior effectively
  • Must be able to deal appropriately with students who exhibit emotional or behavioral problems, aggressive behavior, or physical problems
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Classroom experience with students with disabilities preferred
  • Appropriate State of Ohio certification/license, i.e., Ohio Education Aide certificate
  • BCI/FBI report
  • First aid/CPR training desirable
  • Training in instructional methodologies desirable
  • Frequent interaction among unruly children
  • Exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
  • Occasional requirements to travel to grocery store/fields trips
  • Occasional requirement to "2 person lift" and carry children up to approximately 80 lbs.
  • Occasional requirement to climb, kneel, sit, and balance
  • Occasional overtime work will be requested and expected of the employee
